Abstract
1,009,452. Separating tobacco. K. KÍRBER. Aug. 2, 1962 [Aug. 5, 1961], No. 29743/62. Heading B2H. Tobacco in leaf form is separated from the rib material by conveying the original mixed material in a single stream in an air current upwardly in an inclined separator chamber 10 provided with discharge wheels 5, 75, the heavy rib material being caused to fall under gravity to the wheel 5 and the remaining rib material and the heavy portions of the leaf similarly falling to the wheel 75 which discharges to a second separator chamber 77 ; the leaf material entering the chamber 77 is carried upwardly by air current and can be led separately or together with the lighter leaf material from the chamber 10 through pipes 18 or 18a depending on the position of flaps 84, 85. The rib material can be either guided on to conveyerbelts as shown or into a common pneumatic conveyer pipe. A transverse-current of air is caused in the chamber 10 by providing screens 12 and 25 ; this transverse-current compensates the action of gravity on the leaf material in the main air stream and is further described in Specification 976,903.
