Abstract

1470254 Centrifugal pumps T SMEDEGAARD AS 28 June 1974 [3 July 1973] 28717/74 Heading F1C A centrifugal pump comprises a movable valve sleeve 18 having an obturating band 18a for gradually shutting off the outlet of the impeller 17 from the discharge duct 16 and a skirt 19 having ports 19a for providing a by-pass between the discharge duct and the inlet 15, the sleeve being connected to a piston 23 which is subjected on opposite sides to the discharge and inlet pressures and also connected to a tension spring 22 which opposes the net force on the piston. The space above the piston 23 communicates with the inlet 15 via one or more ducts 25. In another embodiment, the piston is below the impeller, and the spring may be a compression spring.
