Abstract
911,716. Automatic adjusting devices for brakes. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Dec. 2, 1960 [Dec. 4, 1959], No. 41475/60. Class 103 (1). In a brake which is actuated by a spring 19 and released by the introduction of fluid into the cylinder chamber 9 of a brake cylinder 4, provision is made for automatic adjustment of (a) a clearance between the brake lining and a brake surface (e.g. a brake disc 1), and (b) the brake-applying spring force in dependence on the wear of the brake lining and the brake comprises a first piston 10 associated with a brake block 3, a second piston and cylinder arrangement 13 and 12 respectively, the second piston 13 being supported via a spring 14 against the end wall 5 of the brake cylinder 4 when the brake is disengaged; the brake being characterized by a third piston 18 which is actuated by the brake-applying spring, the third piston being arranged substantially concentric with the first piston, an auxiliary chamber 20 being in communication with the cylinder chamber 9 of the brake cylinder. Non-return valves 15, 21 permit flow of fluid only from the cylinder chamber 9 of the brake cylinder 4. When the brake is engaged, i.e. when the pressure medium flows from the cylinder chamber 9, the brake lining 2 is engaged frictionally against the brake disc 1 and the piston 18 and the piston 13 move from the stop faces 24 and 25 respectively a distance a equal to the clearance of the brake. When wear of the lining 2 takes place the distance a is increased and adjustment is compensated for by the introduction of pressure fluid from cylinder chamber 9 via non-return valve 15 into the cylinder 12 of the second piston and cylinder arrangement. Adjustment of the spring force 19 is compensated for by the introduction of fluid from cylinder chamber 9 via non-return valve 21 into chamber 20.
