Abstract
911,686. Automatic adjusting devices for brakes. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Nov. 4, 1960 [Nov. 7, 1959], No. 37933/60. Class 103 (1). In a pneumatically or hydraulically-controlled brake comprising a brake block 3 having a friction lining 2 which is engageable with a brake surface 1, a first piston 10 is movable in a brake cylinder 4 and is coupled by means of a rod 11 to the brake block 3, the first piston 10 being urged by brake applying spring 12 to the brake-engaging position shown in the drawing and brought into its disengaged position by means of fluid-pressure being introduced into the space 9, automatic brakeadjusting means is provided including a second cylinder 13 concentric with the first, cylinder 4 and a second piston 14 operable within the cylinder 13 such that when the brake block is released the second piston 14 is in contact with a spring 19. The second cylinder 13 is provided with a non-return valve 18 and channels 16, 17 to permit the flow of fluid between chamber 9 and space 15 when the brake is being released so that, when the friction lining 2 wears, an increased volume of pressure-fluid passes from chamber 9 into chamber 15 to adjust the brake automatically. When the brake friction lining 2 requires to be changed a screw 21 situated in the end of piston 14 is loosened to drain off the pressure medium in space 15.
