Abstract
<PICT:0909186/IV(a)/1> An apparatus for heating viscose comprises a metal tube immersed in the coagulating bath and constituting the last part of the pipe leading to the spinning nozzle, which tube contains an obstructing body so that the viscose is compelled to flow between the inner surface of the tube and the obstructing body, thus reducing the cross-sectional area of the flowing viscose and increasing its velocity. As shown, viscose is fed from pump 5 to a metal tube 2 immersed in a coagulating bath 4. The obstructing body 1, placed near the spinning nozzle 3, may be provided with grooves or spirals as shown, or may be smooth. The effect of the reduction of cross-sectional area of the viscose and the corresponding increase in viscose velocity is to enhance the heat transfer from the coagulating bath and effect a uniform heating of the viscose by about 10 DEG to 15 DEG C. The tube 2 may be made of titanium, tantalum, lead or steel, and the obstructing body 1 may be made of iron or steel.
