Abstract

908,765. Heat treatment furnaces. SOUTH WESTERN GAS BOARD. May 30, 1961 [June 13, 1960], No. 20709/60. Class 51 (2). The inner treatment chamber of a vertical retort for annealing brass castings comprises a series of superposed, inter-nesting shelves 18 each formed with a discharge opening cooperating with similar openings 24 in a distributer wheel 20 keyed to a central driving shaft 13. The shelf discharge openings are arranged in a backward spiral in relation to the rotation of the shaft and castings fed through a shoot 31 pass in turn over each shelf to a discharge shoot 30. The retort is heated externally by tangentially disposed burners 25 from which gases follow a sinuous path to a flue 27. In a modification. Figs. 4-9 (not shown), the inner chamber comprises two castings formed with slots receiving lugs on the shelves. A further modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), has a rotary, inner chamber and shelves with a fixed central shaft carrying the distributer wheels.
