Abstract

906,582. Sewing; sewing-machines; fastening wearing-apparel. ROSEMAN, L., and ROSEMAN, R. J. July 17, 1961 [Aug. 4, 1960], No. 25770/61. Classes 112 and 141. A tape A, carrying hooks B, Fig. 10, is attached at its respective edges by sewn seams E<1> to a garment D<1>, and the fabric of the latter is made full or slack, as at 19, between the seams. It is stated that the arrangement allows tension in the garment transverse to the tape to be transmitted directly through the latter to the hooks B and co-operating eyes F to prevent rippling or pulling apart at the secured edge Y of the garment. A twin-needle sewing-machine adapted to attach the tape A to the garment D<1> has a throat plate 2 formed with a guide channel 15 for the hooks. At the stitching-point a web 16 projects horizontally laterally from one side of the channel to provide a guide and support for the hooks. A bar 18, secured to the throat plate, has a finger 18<1> which extends longitudinally above channel 15 and projects through a groove 20 formed in the lower surface of the presser foot 6. The garment is fed over the finger 181 which thereby separates the garment from the tape at the stitching point to produce the slackness 19. The feed dog 5a is mounted on a feed-bar 5 which receives its feed lift movements from a rotary cam 7, and its feed advance movements from an oscillating crank 11. The needles 1 are arranged to assist the feed. It is stated that, as an alternative arrangement, the tape may be fed above the garment, when the guide 16 would be mounted in a channel in the underside of the presser foot. It is also stated that the guide 16 may be omitted.
