Abstract

1423390 Single and double chain stitch machine SINGER CO 12 April 1973 [12 May 1972] 17560/73 Heading DIG A two thread chain stitch sewing machine wherein the feed dog 15 advances the work while the needle 19 is in the work is converted to sew a single thread chain stitch by providing a looper 30 having a lateral shoulder 35 and a chamfer 36 and a thread loop positioner 40 secured to the feed dog and including a flexible loop positioning finger terminating in a thread engaging throat 45 which co-operates with the chamfer 36 and positions the needle thread loop on the looper for penetration by the needle 19. Seams. As shown in Fig. 1, a machine may be fitted with the looper 30 and positioner 40 in addition to the two thread chain stitch looper 16 and spreader 12 so that a two and a one thread chain stitch seam may be sewn simultaneously.
