Abstract

1405480 Sewing machine BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 25 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 49159/72 Heading D1G To prevent the formation of lock stitches having an extra twist (44, Fig. 19 not shown) the work pieces feeding means of an automatic lock stitch sewing machine are mounted to be movable relatively to the stitching head. In this sewing machine wherein work is fed along X and Y axes in accordance with a pattern the disposition, relatively to the needle 22, of the upper and lower thread limbs extending from a previous stitch depends on the direction of feed subsequent to the last stitch, stitches having the extra twist (44) resulting from the thread limbs (26, 32,. Figs. 8, 12 not shown) being on opposite, rather than the same side of the needle. To prevent this the workpiece feed means 12 is mounted on a frame portion 19 pivoted at 20, coincidently with the axis of needle 22, to the main frame of the machine. The frame portion 19 is swingable about 20 by means 48 comprising a pneumatic device 51 52 connected to an arm 56 on a sleeve 53 secured to portion 19. Means (18 Fig. 1 not shown) which may be a numerical control means, control both the feed means 12 and the device 48 by which the former is swung about the axis 20.
