Abstract
905,308. Rotary I.C. engines. NSU MOTORENWERKE A.G., and WANKEL G.m.b.H. June 7, 1960 [June 9, 1959], No. 19957/60. Class 110 (2). A power unit comprises two rotary I.C. engines of the n and n +1 lobe type mounted in dynamic balance relationship on an output shaft 5 together with a common supercharging compressor which is disposed therebetween (see Fig. 1, not shown). Each engine and compressor consists of a triangular rotor such as 8 having arcuate sides which is mounted in an outer body of epitrochoid form. Each engine rotor is provided with channels 26 which may be adjusted to vary the compression ratio of the engine, the channels 26 permit passage of the combustion gases from one lobe to the other when the rotor is at top dead-centre. Timing recesses are formed in the compressor rotor (see Fig. 3, not shown). If desired, the inner body may be held stationary and the outer member constitute the rotor.
