Abstract
904,710. Pipe joints. STANTON IRONWORKS CO. Ltd. Nov. 23, 1960 [March 31, 1960], No. 11352/60. Class 99(1). Means for interconnecting adjacent coaxial pipe lengths embodies a sealing ring 5 and two anchoring rings 6, 8, the latter being formed and adapted so as to be in mutual abutment and one of the rings being also adapted to abut a shoulder formed on one pipe length and the other of the rings being also adapted to abut one face of the sealing ring. The other face of the sealing ring is adapted to abut a surface on a member anchored to the other pipe length, and the abutting faces of the shoulder and the first mentioned face of the sealing ring and the faces of the anchoring rings which are adapted to abut with their abutting faces are in planes normal to the longitudinal axis of the pipes. As shown, the spigot and socket pipes 1, 2 are connected by bolts 3 and a gland 4 engages the resilient gasket 5, on the lead-sheathed, inner pressure face thereof, that face being in abutment with a metal ring 6 in engagement with a shoulder 7 on the pipe 2 and a split metal ring 8 sprung into a groove 9 in the pipe 1. The mutually abutting faces of the rings 6, 8 may be chamfered as shown; alternatively the rings are rectangular in cross-section. In a modification, two pipes are connected by an overlapping sleeve.
