Abstract

1,170,953. Pipe joint. JAMES HOWDEN & CO. Ltd. 8 Nov., 1967 [12 Nov., 1966], No. 50827/66. Heading F2G. A joint between pipes 2, 3 permitting both axial and radial movement between the pipes comprises a sleeve 5 having sealing connections between its ends and the pipes, one sealing connection 6, 10, 11 permitting axial sliding between one pipe and the one sleeve end, the other sealing connection permitting radial sliding movement between the other end and the other pipe. The latter connection comprises a groove 18 provided on the sleeve 5 and receiving an annular ring 22 secured to the flange 15 of pipe 2. The sleeve 5, 20 acts as a differential piston, the pressure in the pipe-line forcing the face 23 of the slot into sealing engagement with the corresponding face of the annulus 22. The first sealing connection is provided by the piston rings 11 located in grooves which may be formed in the sleeve, as shown, or in the part 10.
