Abstract
904,488. Valves. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. June 2, 1960 [June 10, 1959], No. 19951/59. Class 135. A fluid supply system includes a pressurecontrol valve having two parts capable of relative movement, a pressure inlet, an exhaust outlet and a pressure take-off outlet, the inlet communicating with each outlet by way of paths between the two parts, means for maintaining the exhaust outlet at low and substantially constant pressure, and means for moving the valve parts relative to one another so that the relationship between the resistance to flow of fluid from the pressure inlet to the exhaust outlet and the resistance to flow of fluid from the pressure inlet to the pressure take-off outlet is varied, whereby the proportion of the inlet pressure which appears at the take-off outlet is varied, the path from the inlet to the exhaust outlet always offering substantially the same resistance to flow. In Fig. 1, two opposed inlet ports 11, 12 supply opposed exhaust ports (not shown) at right-angles to the inlet ports, the fluid flowing through the annular spaces between a rotatable valve member 8 and the valve body 1 and through a pair of ports, one of which is shown at 9, into end spaces 19 and 20. The pressure in a conduit 21, constituting the pressure take-off outlet, is varied by rotating the member 8 to move the ports 9, 10 in relation to the inlet and exhaust ports. Fig. 3 shows a further construction in which a clearance 40 between a valve member 30 of rectangular cross-section and its body provides a resistive path from an inlet 38 to a pressure take-off outlet 39 and to an exhaust 41. The exhaust may be arranged on the opposite side of the inlet from the pressure take-off outlet and a cylindrical closure member with longitudinal flats to co-operate with circumferentially spaced series of inlet and exhaust parts may be employed. The reciprocable closure members may be supported on fluidbearing pads which may be supplied through additional ports in the body. Fluid resistances may be provided in the connections both to these ports and to the inlet and exhaust ports.
