Abstract
870,147. Hydraulic apparatus. INTEGRAL Ltd. Oct. 29, 1958 [Jan. 22, 1958], No. 2172/58. Class 69 (2). A flow divider for mounting the flows of liquid from an hydraulic pump to a number of jacks or other loads in predetermined proportions comprises a body 6 having an inlet port 9 connected by individual channels to outlet ports 7, 8, each channel having a valve 11 associated with a flow control orifice 10, the valves responding to changes in the pressure drop across the orifices to maintain or throttle the flow of liquid through the channels. Any change in the friction in a jack causes a change in the pressure drop across the orifice 10 associated with that jack to vary the pressure acting on the inner end of its associated piston valve 11 and, by means of a passage 13, the outer end of the piston valve associated with the other orifice. A decrease in pressure drop across one orifice also causes a corresponding increase, and vice versa, in pressure drop across the other orifice to vary the pressure acting on the other ends of the piston valves, the changes in pressure causing the piston valves, which are urged by springs S towards the fully-open positions, to move a corresponding amount to maintain proportionality of flow between the channels. The proportionality is determined by the dimensions of the orifices and proportionality of flow to more than two loads may be maintained, a separate channel being provided for each load.
