Abstract

The substituted salicylamides of the parent Specification are prepared by reacting salicylic acid azide or salicylamide with a diamine of the formula R1NH.X.NR2R3 (wherein R1 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, X is alkylene of 2 or 3 carbon atoms and R2 and R3 are C1-C4 alkyl or, together with N, form a saturated heterocyclic ring). Examples are given and salts of the products with organic and inorganic acids are described. Salicylic acid azide is prepared by treating salicoyl hydrazide in hydrochloric acid with sodium nitrite. The substituted salicylamides, which are stated to have analgetic, antipyretic and antiphlogistic action, may be formulated as pharmaceutical compositions. Aqueous injection solutions of the salts are described, and tablets, suppositories and syrups are also referred to.
