903,149. Valves. GULLICK Ltd. Feb. 5, 1960 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 5402/59. Class 135. A relief or bleed valve, e.g. for pit-props, comprises a valve cylinder 20 containing a lightly spring-loaded piston 18 ported at 18a carrying a valve 16 controlling inlet 11 and outlet 12, and a stem 19 of less cross-section than the valve seat 17, and a heavy spring- loaded piston 24 in piston cylinder 23 carrying a valve engaging part 30 and exposed to inlet pressure via 26 for opening the valve. Owing to the differential areas on either side of piston 18, the loading of the valve on its seat increases with increase in inlet pressure until, at a predetermined pressure, piston 24 moves against its spring to close a gap at 14 and unseat the valve.
