Abstract

Finely-divided particles of one or more of the metals Ni, Co, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cr, Mo, V, Mn, Nb, Ta, W, Be, Ag, Pb, Bi, Au having intimately dispersed therein an oxide of at least one element selected from Si, Mg, Ca, Ba, U, B, Al, Cr, Ti, Zr, Hf, Th, are produced by oxidizing an atomized solution of a mixture of salts of the corresponding elements in an oxidizing flame and reducing the resultant mixed oxides or mixed crystal with a reducing gas, e.g. hydrogen. The oxide may form 0.1-20% of the product and shaped articles may be produced by pressing and sintering the product or by pressing the oxides, reducing them and then sintering.
