Abstract

902,516. Fuel injection pumps. BESSIERE, P. E. Jan. 11, 1961, No. 1224/61. Class 102(1). A fuel injection pump for at least one injector (not shown) has a delivery regulating shuttle 7, which opens and closes a by-pass conduit 6 connected to the pump cylinder 1, and is operated by an auxiliary piston 10a and a return spring 8, characterized in that the admission of fuel to the auxiliary cylinder 11 through a conduit or conduits 12 is controlled by rotation of the auxiliary piston by the pump camshaft 34 through 32, 33, 30 so that the conduit 12 is closed before the auxiliary piston begins its delivery stroke to the shuttle. The sidewall of the auxiliary piston has at least one groove 20 to admit fuel to the auxiliary cylinder 11 during at least part of the return stroke of the auxiliary piston. The return stroke of the shuttle is braked by a preferably adjustable throttle 18 in a duct 16 feeding back to the cylinder 11, the delivery conduit 13 to the shuttle being closed by a non-return ball valve 13a. The stroke of the shuttle is stopped when the shuttle opens a by-pass conduit 14. The pump delivery conduit 5 is fitted with a similar ball valve 5a.
