Abstract
900,631. Collecting gear for dynamo-electric machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 29, 1960 [Oct. 1, 1959], No. 33327/59. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVI] A coupling between a pair of vibrating terminals, e.g. on an alternator shaft 1 (Fig. 1) and a pair of terminals 32, involving the use of two coupled universal joints, comprises two parallel conductors 23 connecting and forming bearings 22, 27 (Figs. 3, 4) for two split cruciform members 12, 29 (Fig. 2), with their remaining free opposite ends 11 and 30 electrically and pivotally connected to the vibrating (5) and stationary (32) terminals, respectively. Two mutuallyinsulated current paths are formed through the two conductors 23 and the cruciform members 12, 29 which are divided by insulation 15 (Fig. 2). The non-vibrating terminals 32, which rotate with the shaft 1, are respectively connected, each to one of the conductive blocks 37, 38 and concentric conductors 36, 35, the latter forming part of a rotary to stationary mercury coupling (not shown). Mercury bearings are used throughout the coupling, relative axial movement between alternator shaft and stationary terminals being permitted by the bearing- member 9, which can slide in slide blocks 8.
