948,398. Dynamo-electric machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 13, 1962 [Dec. 18, 1961], No. 45270/61. Heading H2A. In an electrical machine, e.g. a turbogenerator, including a rotor on which are electrical connections, the rotor has arranged in an axial bore 7 an electrical conductor 9 which for the most part is concentric with the rotor but has at one end an axially extending lug 123 whose centre of mass is offset from the rotor axis 25, the lug has a bore which is normal to the axis 25 and at least part by tapers in the diametrical direction towards the axis 25, and a transverse conductor 21 extends diametrically through the lug bore and has a part or parts complementarily tapered with that of the bore, the centre of mass of the conductor 21 being offset from the axis 25 in a direction which is diametrically opposite that of the lug and at such a radius that the lug and conductor are statically and dynamically balanced and in use their centrifugal forces mutually balance and force the two tapered parts into mutual contact. There may be a second concentric conductor 11 within the conductor 9 and similarly connected to a respective transverse conductor 19, the two conductors 19, 21 being connected to repectives slip rings 3, 5 via flexible connectors, e.g. 55, to convey direct current to a field winding (not shown), in slots in the rotor core.
