Abstract
896,628. Transformers. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 15, 1959 [Sept. 17, 1958], No. 20859/61. Divided out of 896,627. Class 38 (2). A phase-shifter producing two separate outputs whose phases are shifted by different amounts comprises a cylindrical induction regulator type machine having primary and secondary windings in two pole-numbers. In the simplest form shown in Fig. 1, the primary member carries a two-pole and a four-pole winding connected in series, while the secondary member carries two corresponding windings connected to separate terminals OUT1, OUT2. On relative rotation of the members, the phaseshift at terminals OUT2 will be twice as great as that at OUT1. The four-pole winding may be replaced by an eight-pole or other winding to give a greater rate of phase-shift with respect to the two outputs. The phase-shifter may be used for the control of variable-speed induction motors, e.g. that described in Specification 788,234.
