Abstract
768,931. Commutator machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 10, 1955 [May 10, 1954], No. 13536/55. Class 35. In a commutator machine carrying undulating current, e.g. a traction motor fed from a rectifier, the tendency for the undulating component of the compole flux to lag due to eddycurrents, is offset by means of a choke or transformer in parallel with the compole winding 3. As shown, the comple winding 3 and series winding 4 are connected in series with a resistor 10, a choke 2 serving to reduce the ripple applied to the motor. A further resistor 9 and choke 8 are connected in parallel with coil 3 and resistor 10 and serve to correct the phase of the ripple current. In a modification, the choke 8 is replaced by the secondary of a transformer, which may be the choke 2, in the input line. In a further modification, a tapping across choke 2 feeds a separate winding on the compoles, and condensers may be used in the secondary circuit.
