A lifeboat is provided with buoyancy members which extend along the full length of the sides of the boat from stem to stern and in which some of the members extend further towards the centre of the boat than others. As shown in Fig. 2, buoyancy tanks 10-14 of various sizes are provided along the sides of the boat and the spaces 15, 16 are filled with buoyancy tanks or buoyancy material. Longitudinal bulkheads may be provided to confine the water shipped into the boat to the centre part and the hull may be provided with holes having non-return valves for discharge of water.
