Abstract

568,444. Inflatable boats ; centreboards. MIGGE, B. July 5, 1943, No. 10852. [Classes 113 (ii) and 114] An inflatable boat has sides which in plan are arcuate or otherwise curved, with or without short, straight sections, and a double bottom which comprises an inner floor 12 or 19 and a downwardlv curved outer bottom 13 or 18 which is deepest at its centre. The buoyancy tubes may be circular or substantially oval in cross-section, with slightly elevated ends. They may be made in sections longitudinally, each may contain a number of inner tubes 5, and the non-return inflation valves may be grouped together for connection to a common supply. Canvas strips or ropes 11 may pull in the ends to stiffen the boat. The bottom may be doubly convex, or it may present concave curves when seen from front and sides, and it may be inflatable. It may be formed with a slot with a movable sleeve 16 to accommodate a centreboard 33 or a sectional mast 32. Alternatively, beneath the floor 19 may be secured a separate keel portion 18 with reinforced edges 21 and water-entry holes 22, an air valve 23 being provided in the floor. A sharper stem or stern may be obtained by means of struts 25 and form-pockets 26, whilst struts 28 may support a deck 29. The hull may be protected by a separate skin, or all the pneumatic parts may be removably accommodated within a complete skin 31. The mast 32 and centre-board 33 may be used as an oar or rudder, and the centre-board may be pivotally attached to the mast so that it may swing upwardly in shallow water.
