Abstract

565,613. Collapsable boats. KIDDE CO., Ltd., W., and LAMBERT, G. June 1, 1943, No. 8763. [Class 113 (ii)] A collapsable boat comprises rigid bottom and side members 1a, 2 jointed along fore- and - aft waterproof seams 3 and held expanded by one or more transverse struts formed by automatically inflatable containers 9, 10. The latter may be arranged at or intermediate the ends of the boat, and they may be used with longitudinally disposed inflatable tubes 11 and/or rigid auxiliary struts. Each container may be formed by a group of tubes 12, and they may be inflated by means of a carbon dioxide cylinder, the release mechanism of which is operated by an electric battery under the control of an immersion switch. When slightly expanded the boat may present a flattened triangular space for the accommodation of emergency gear.
