893,486. Spinning machines. SCHWAGER, H. G. Jan. 27, 1959 [Jan. 27, 1958; Nov. 25, 1958], No. 2923/59. Class 120(2) A flyer comprises a limb and two arms 4, 5 with a presser 12 and counterweight 11 pivoted on the arm 5 which has a passage with a slit opening 10 extending along its length on one side and on the opposite side has a deep groove formed between two ribs 8, 9 the cross-section of the arm 5 and counterweight 11 being shaped for minimum air turbulence. The presser 12 which has an insert 20 of friction-resistant material at the part in contact with the spool, and the counter-weight 11 are pivotally attached to the arm at the upper and lower end of the counterweight. The flyer is coupled to a spindle by means of a drag plate which is push-fitted between two grooves in a sleeve fixed to the arms 4, 5 and engages in a slot in the spindle. The upper end of the slit 10 is inclined to the direction of the air stream to set up a counter pressure of air against the pressure due to centrifugal force.
