[Also in Group XXXIX] In a method of limiting the torque produced by a motor in response to a rapidly varying control signal, alternating current delivered from X to Y over transformers 8 and 9 is made to appear gradually at Y, when switched abruptly at X, by means of a variable attenuator 3, 4, 24, 25, controlled by the output of a magnetic amplifier 103 the input to which is an exponentially increasing direct current produced by switching a D.C. source on to the R.C. network 1, 2, 5. The switches S1 S2 are ganged together.
