Abstract

814,368. Automatic speed control systems. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 2, 1956 [May 6, 1955], No. 13495/56. Class 38 (4). In a system wherein the speed of a motor M is controlled by a transistor 67 switched from one extreme of conduction to the other by width modulated pulses in accordance with an error signal as in Specification 802,184, the transistor emitter-collector path is included in the centre tap connection between the output of a mains transformer 77 and the input of a load transformer 91 feeding the motor field 97. Rectangular pulses are produced across the emitter-collector of transistor 11 which are width modulated in accordance with the output from mixer 107 and are pre-amplified in a highly stable transistor amplifier 115 to control transistor 67. Normal cut-off bias is applied to the transistor from transformer 10 through rectifier 61, and filter network 63, 65. A modified arrangement in which an artificial centretap is created for the secondary of the mains transformer is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown).
