Abstract

843,721. Switching systems. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. March 21, 1958 [March 28, 1957], No. 9107/58. Class 38 (4). A sequence control system for controlling a mechanical load driven from a continuously running motor through a clutch and which is retarded by a brake such as a punch press comprises one or more bi-stable circuits, the output from which controls operation of the clutch and brake in response to an input signal. The bi-stable circuit is connected to coincidence and signal reversing circuits which are set to give the required sequence without the use of mechanical relays. The bi-stable circuit comprises two mutual inductances 30, 31 having rectangular hysteresis characteristics, each having a reset winding 32, 42 and a gating winding 38, 45. A signal applied to the " on " input terminal will give rise to a continual output until a further signal is applied to the " off " input terminal. Coincidence and signal reversing circuits, the latter giving zero output on application of the signal, are described in the Specification for use with the above arrangement these circuits having similar components to the bi-stable circuits.
