Abstract

1,225,636. Correspondence control systems. RANK ORGANISATION Ltd. May 14, 1969 [May 16, 1968], No.23343/68. Heading GIN. [Also in Division G3] In a servosystem, in which it is necessary to measure the speed of a motor, the motor itself is switched to serve as a tachometer generator. In an automatic speed control system the motor 10 is connected alternately to the output of an amplifier 12 or a feedback path 22-23 by a change over switch 13. The switch operates continuously which may or may not be determined by the supply frequency. The output of the motor 10 when serving as a tachogenerator is compared with a desired speed signal 11, the error signal controlling the input to the amplifier 12. The latter may include thyratrons or thyristors, phase controlled by the error signal; the switch may then connect the motor to the supply during conducting half cycles and as a generator during non-conducting half cycles of the thyristor. The arrangement may be used with either A. C. or D. C. motors. In a modification, Fig.2 (not shown) to avoid switching heavy currents a two-pole switch is used, one pole being in the feedback path and the other disconnecting the output stages of the amplifier.
