Abstract

895,654. Semi-conductor circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 20, 1959 [Oct. 24. 1958], No. 34171/58. Class 40(6). [Also in Group XXXVI] A Hall plate is used as a signal attenuator. The input signal is applied to terminals 2, 3 and the output taken through transformer T the ratio of the input and output magnitudes being controlled by the field strength of electromagnet 8 which is controlled by rheostat 9. Fig. 2 shows a ferrite housing 21 which contains the electromagnet 8 and which has a central core 22 which supports the Hall plate 1 and, in the top of the housing, a further core 26 on which is the transformer T provided with an electrostatic screen between the windings. The transformer output is taken from a coaxial plug 12. Materials suggested for the Hall plate are germanium, silicon and indium arsenide.
