Abstract

966,512. Semi-conductor devices. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 14, 1960 [Oct. 24, 1959], No. 36074/59. Heading H1K. The leads to a Hall plate are so arranged with respect to the magnetic field that either no E.M.F. is induced in them or the E.M.F.'s induced in one conductor are balanced by those induced in the other pole pair. Fig. 2 shows a Hall plate 1 of N-type germanium resting on the centre limb of an E-shaped magnetic core. The coil surrounding the central core and the top yoke are not shown. Input conductors 5 are symmetrically arranged with regard to the central flux plane 8, the flux encircling one conductor being equal and opposite to that encircling the other. Output conductors 6 are in a " neutral plane " 8 that is a plane not intersected by flux so that no E.M.F.'s are induced in them. In a further arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown), the Hall plate is arranged in the central limb of a cylindrical magnet. Both input and output conductors are arranged in radial planes which are not intersected by flux. In the arrangement of Fig. 2, conductors 5 or 6 could lie in the plane of the E and pass through holes in the outer limbs.
