Abstract
801,254. Automatic amplitude control systems. RANK CINTEL, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1956 [Dec. 21, 1955], No. 36592/55. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] A zero-frequency amplifier comprises two channels, capable of providing equal gain, used alternately, wherein the D.C. level in either channel is determined and corrected during the time the other is operating. As shown, the input 1 is fed to cathode followers 2 in the two channels A, B, each channel comprising three D.C. amplifiers 6, 7, 8 in cascade. The output 10 is selected by means of a circuit 9 alternately from each channel depending on the polarity of a 50: 50 square wave fed to terminal 11. Shortly after channel A ceases to function, the input of amplifier 6 of channel B, which may be a cathode-coupled pair, is earthed by relay 3. The output of amplifier 8 is now compared with a reference level in circuit 12 and a correction voltage generated by circuit 13, which is rendered operative by a pulse at terminal 14, is fed to amplifier 6. Relay 3 is now released and the outputs of the two channels are compared by circuit 15, any difference being corrected by adjustment of gain of amplifier 8 by means of the control signal generator 16, rendered operative by a pulse at terminal 17. The square wave 11 now changes polarity causing the output to be taken from channel B while any drift in channel A is being corrected. Channel A has fixed or manually variable gain. The control pulses may have a low frequency and may be generated by relay circuits, but the 50: 50 square wave which must have a fast transition should be generated electronically.
