Abstract

892,456. Resilient mountings. ROBINSON TECHNICAL PRODUCTS Inc. Nov. 19, 1959, No. 39262/59. Class 108(3). In a method of resiliently mounting instruments such as gyroscopes 10, Fig. 1, in vehicles, aircraft, &c. on cushioning devices 14 additional means comprising pairs of spaced parallel resilient rods 42, 66 are arranged to prevent rotation about at least one axis while permitting lateral flexing movement in all directions. In one example an instrument 10 mounted on resilient pads 16 of rubber, metal mesh, coil springs, &c. located by channels 28 on a base 12 attached to a vehicle has freedom of vibratory movement in all directions but is prevented from oscillating about a rolling axis parallel to the direction of motion of the vehicle as represented by the arrow 74. One pair of resilient rods 42 is clamped to the base 12 at the lower ends and to a cross-shaped member 56 at the upper ends. Further pairs of resilient rods 66 are connected between a flange 68 of the instrument 10 and the member 56 and are arranged to straddle one of the rods 42 to prevent unbalanced coupling forces. The system is duplicated on the opposite side of the instrument 10. Where relative rotation is to be prevented about two or more axes, corresponding systems of rods are arranged transversely of the relevant axes on opposite sides of the instrument 10. Specification 686,370 is referred to.
