Abstract

1293633 Ventilator testing devices MEDICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 9 March 1970 11159/70 Heading A5T A device for testing the performance of ventilating machines comprises a bellows 36, the volume of which is urged to a datum level by the restoring force of one or more springs 50, 52, 54, which acts when the bellows is expanded or contracted, gas from a ventilating machine entering the bellows through an entry conduit (60). The device has a pyrimidalshaped frame formed of four supports (12), 14, 16 and 18. The end walls of the bellows are rigid, one being attached to supports (12) and 16 and the other 38 being attached to a pivotable arm 40 which carries an extension 44. The free end of the extension 44 carries a pin 46 to which one end of each spring 50, 52, 54 may be attached as required, the other end of each spring is attached to a bar 32 connecting supports 14 and 18. The springs are such that, when the volume of the bellows is at the datum level, they lie in the same plane as supports 14 and 18. The bellows has restraining rings one of which is attached by a link 51 to the apex of the frame. The arm 40 also carries a pointer (42) which moves across an indicator plate (28) to show the amount of bellows expansion or contraction. The entry conduit (60) carries an adjustable flow-restriction device (62) and the gas pressure in conduit (60) is registered on a gauge (30) mounted above the indicator plate the device can be modified to record continuously the movement of the pointer.
