Abstract

553,793. Spring mountings for apparatus. METALASTIK, Ltd., GOLDSCHIMDT, M., and MOYAL, J. E. Nov. 29, 1941, No. 15406. [Class 108 (iii)] An instrument or machine is resiliently mounted upon a ring of rubber springs of the type in which the rubber elements are bonded to two opposed parallel metal members as described in Specifications 501,167 ; 543,917 and 546,004, the shear surfaces being inclined to the plane of the the base or support at an angle of 55 degrees or 125 degrees. Fig. 1 shows an example of the double sandwich type in which one of the rubber elements 13 is in shear while the other is in compression. Fig. 2 shows in plan the disposition of the rubber spring units and for a complete resilient mounting there should be three or more to obtain equal translational vibrations along each of the three axes ox, oy, and oz. In other examples, single sandwich elements are used, the weight of the machine subjecting them to such impact forces that the vibrations do not reverse the stresses. The angular or torsional frequencies around the axes can be controlled by varying the radial distance of the mountings from their common centre.
