Abstract

A hydrophobic Portland cement with a reduced dusting tendency is produced by grinding the finished hydrophobic cement with a minor proportion, preferably 0,2% to 1,5% by weight of a mineral lubricating oil, a mineral jelly or a mineral wax. The hydrophobic cement is first formed by grinding together the cement with water repellant agents such as fatty acids, naphthenic acids and their alkali metal salts. The dust suppressing additive such as a thin mineral lubricating oil on petroleum jelly is then ground with the hydrophobic cement either in the last stage of a multi chamber grinding mill or in an independent mixing stage. According to the Provisional Specification the water repellant additive may also be tall oil, chlor-x-cresylic acid and pentochlorophenol.
