Abstract
559,299. Making leather. NATIONAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. June 5, 1942, No. 7665. Convention date, June 13, 1941. [Class 76] Leather is finished by treatment with a liquid comprising a "blown" fatty oil and a water insoluble liquid ester having at least 9 C atoms and being the ester of either a higher fatty acid and a lower mono- or di-hydric alcohol or of a lower fatty acid and a higher mono- or di-hydric alcohol. The liquids may be applied as such or in aqueous emulsion. In finishing some types of leather, waxes, gums and mucilaginous materials may be mixed with the compositions. Other additions may include sulphated soybean oil and sulphated rice bran oil. Compositions mentioned include blown soybean oil and butyl oleate, or methyl oleate, blown pea nut oil and isobutyl ricinoleate, blown sperm oil and butyl palmitate. A composition for treating sole leather comprises a mixture of wool grease, rosin, paraffin wax, carnauba wax, dry sodium hydroxide, gelatin and one of the above compositions to which is added about twice the quantity of water.
