Abstract

An emulsifiable, dry face-powder composition comprises (1) from 0.8 to 1.5% by weight of a non-ionic surface-active agent which is an ester or ether of a polyhydric alcohol or of a polyoxyethylene glycol, (2) from 0.5 to 2% by weight of dehydrated or hydrogenated lanolin, beeswax, whale wax or petroleum jelly, (3) from 0.5 to 3% by weight of squalane or liquid paraffin, (4) from 0 to 4% by weight of stearic or palmitic acid, the balance being a face-powder base comprising, for example, talc, kaolin, bentonite, magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, zinc or magnesium stearate, zinc white, titanium white, colouring and perfume. The compositions may be prepared by heating together the fatty components and the surface-active agent with sufficient water to give an oil-in-water emulsion to which the powder base materials are added. After grinding or milling to adjust the solid particle size, the composition is matured for 3 to 5 days at 35 DEG to 50 DEG C., dried and sieved.
