Abstract

890,740. Connectors for wires &c. CABLE COVERS Ltd. Nov. 30, 1959 [Dec. 4, 1958], No. 39082/58. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XXV] A connector for joining wires or rods 7 comprises an outer sleeve 1 adapted to house one or two tubular inserts 3 for receiving the ends of the wires, the insert or inserts having a screwthreaded internal bore and a knurled, serrated or otherwise treated exterior surface, so that upon the sleeve being compressed the insert or inserts bite into and grip the wire or wires and also bite into or grip the interior of the sleeve. The inserts may be provided with one or more longitudinal sawcuts 6 and be counterbored at one or both ends thereof; the inserts are retained in the sleeve by slightly burring or peening the end or ends of the sleeve. During or subsequent to compression of the sleeve the ends thereof may be upset or contoured into close proximity to or to engage the wires to form a weatherproof seal between the sleeve and wires.
