Abstract
1,149,611. Cable seals. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 24 Jan., 1967 [25 Jan., 1966], No. 3258/66. Heading H2E. Insulation for a pair of tails at the end of a twin core cable comprises a first insulating sleeve split part-way across an intermediate cross-section to form two insulating portions joined at the said cross-section and applied over the end portions of the cables, and a second insulating sleeve overlapping the common insulation of the cable and the said insulating portions, both sleeves being of heatshrunk irradiated plastics. The second sleeve may have a longitudinal slit, and as shown in Fig. 9, the split portions of sleeve 70 are inserted into the insulation member 32. A further sleeve 90 of the same plastics material may be heat-shrunk over the joint to strengthen it and improve its insulating properties further. In another embodiment (Fig. 10, not shown), the split sleeve 70 may be omitted. Tools and the process for forming the sleeves from tubing are described (Figs. 1 to 7, not shown).
