Abstract

1,250,148. Electric couplings. THOMAS & BETTS CORP. 16 March, 1970 [4 April, 1969], No. 12541/70. Heading H2E. To pierce the insulation or oxide on a conductor and make good contact with the conductor, teeth 28 are struck from the surface of a connector 20 leaving recesses 30 to accommodate the displaced insulating material. Each tooth has planar and conical surfaces and two cutting edges (54, not shown) but may have a third cutting edge or serrated edges. Alternative connector configurations suitable for crimping include cylindrical sleeves, rectangular sleeves with accordion sides, connectors having portions folded over, and a connector having teeth on both surfaces, suitable for clamping between two conductors. The teeth are hardened by being struck from the surface.
