Abstract

[Also in Group XXIX] A non-return valve comprises a thimble 6, a sleeve 10 accommodated wholly within and detachably secured to the open end of the thimble, and a plunger 13 slidable in the thimble and cooperating with a seat 12 formed on and around the interior of the sleeve end to control flow between a number of radial discharge ports 8 in the thimble and the bore of the sleeve, the closed end of the thimble having an enlarged head 7, and the thimble being inserted through the eye of an annulus 19 having a fluid discharge outlet 20, the open end of the thimble being connected into a coupling 25 of a supply pipe so that the annulus is gripped between this coupling and the head 7. The top of the plunger is in permanent communication with the discharge ports 8 to assist the force of gravity in closing the valve on reverse flow.
