Abstract

887,397. Road traffic signals on vehicles. S.W.F. - SPEZIALFABRIK FUER AUTOZUBEHOER, G., RAN G.m.b.H. March 11, 1960, No. 8759/60. Class 118. [Also in Group XXXVII] A self-cancelling direction-indicator switch for vehicles comprises a trough-like housing 3 clamped by a screw 28 on the steering column outer tube which extends to a ledge 31. An annular switch ring 4 with operating handle 5 forms a closure for the top of the housing 3 and carries resiliently mounted bridging contacts 14 for co-operation with fixed contacts on an insulating plate 11 secured in the housing 3. A spring 22 is carried between supports 25 and 26 in the housing 3 and is engaged by projections 23 or 24 when the ring 4 is rotated either way respectively and thus exerts a restoring force. A rib 27 between stops 25 and 26 prevents spring 22 snapping out downwardly. The ring 4 is restrained in its operated positions by one of two pawls 21 mounted thereon which engages a fixed stop 18 on the housing 3; the other pawl projects through a cut-out portion 19 in the housing 3 for engagement with a return cam on the steering column (not shown) which positively restores the switch ring when the steering wheel is returned to the straight ahead position.
