Abstract
1,158,785. Direction indication for vehicles. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 19 Dec., 1966 [5 Oct., 1965] No. 42140/65. Heading G4Q. A direction indicator switch arrangement in which the indication is cancelled by the steering mechanism comprises a body member 11 secured to the vehicle and a moulded resilient sleeve 13 which engages as a snap fit in the body and is keyed 16, 17 to the steering shaft 15 whereby on rotation of the shaft a lobe member 14 on the sleeve co-operates with the switch to cancel an indication. The body supports a carrier member 19 which can be moved about a bush 18 by means of the indicator lever 21 and against the action of a plunger 20 to a left or right position in which it is held by leaf spring catches 22 or 23. This movement operates the left or right-hand indicator lamps and in addition moves one of a pair of pawls 24, 25, pivotally mounted on the carrier member into the path of movement of the sleeve lobe 14. Movement of the steering column to execute a turn brings the lobe into engagement with the pawl without releasing the associated spring catch but on the return movement the engagement releases the catch and the carrier member is returned by the action of plunger 20 to its neutral position. The body and sleeve also carry respectively a brush and ring for a horn circuit and the lever 21 can also be used as shown in Fig. 3 (not shown), to operate a further circuit for the vehicle head lamps.
