Abstract

1,179,828. Switches held set and freed mechanically; retractive switches. WESTFALISCHE METALL INDUSTRIE K.G. HUEK & CO. 17 June, 1968 [28 Oct., 1967], No. 28689/68. Heading H1N. A vehicle direction indicator switch of the kind comprising an operating lever 2 pivoting about one axis to operate the direction-indicating lights and pivoting about a second transverse axis, provided by a pin 6, to operate the vehicle headlights, is characterized by the switch base part 1 providing a guideway for a slidable contact carrier 12 moved against a restoring spring 13 in response to pivotal movement of lever 2 about the pin 6. In the bore of carrier or slide 12 are contacts 14, 15, electrically connected and urged apart by a spring 16 to engage a contact strip 17 and one of the three fixed contacts 18, 19, 20, depending on the position of lever 2. Inner end 2a of lever 2 has a spring 7 bearing on pin 6 and pressing a locking pin 8 into a locking groove 9 or 10, for "main" and "dipped" positions. A sloping surface 11 on which pin 8 slides restores the lever 2 from the "flashing" position of contacts 14, 15, connecting contacts 17, 20. Depression of button 3 in lever 2 operates the horn by a wire 4 displaceable to close contacts 5. Lever 2 is automatically returned to a neutral position from its direction indicating positions by restoring means connected with the steering wheel movement.
