Abstract

1475196 Mechanical switches BONNELLA SWITCHES Ltd 10 Sept 1975 [29 Oct 1974] 46701/74 Heading H1N A switch wherein the operating member is pivotable about each of two mutually transverse axes to perform respective switching functions has a first mounting 20, 21 of the ball- and-socket type and a second mounting 22, 23 of pin-and-slot type, the mountings permitting pivotal movement of the operating member about a first axis 24 which passes through the two mountings and tilting movement about a second axis on relative movement of the pin 22 and slot 23. As shown, the member 12 has an integral part-spherical portion 20 received in a socket constituted by an opening 21 in a metal plate 15 forming the cover of a synthetic resin body 14 which has a slot 23 receiving a pin 22, also integral with member 12. Thus member 12 may be actuated by an arm 13, to pivot about axis 24 causing spring-loaded contact 26 to bridge selected fixed contacts 30, and it may be tilted with sliding of pin 22 along slot 23 to cause portion 38 of contact member 32 to abut a conductive strip 41. The portion 37 extends below portion 38 and is held in continuous engagement with a conductive strip 40 by spring 35. The strips 40 and 41 extend sufficiently in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the drawing for contact 32 to be effective in any position of member 12 about axis 24. The tilting action of member 12 to actuate contact 32 is retractive due to spring 28 of contact 26, which normally urges member 12 to the position shown.
