Abstract

1385091 Mechanical switches; retractive switches SWF-SPEZIALFABRIK FUER AUTOZUBEHOER GUSTAV RAU GmbH 14 July 1972 [14 July 1971] 32956/72 Heading H1N In a steering column switch assembly, when the operating lever 41 is moved parallel to the steering wheel plane it operates direction indicator switch 52 and when lever 41 is moved normal to that plane it operates an additional switching device. The additional switching device comprises a first sliding contact carrier 10 carrying a bridging contact 12, carrier 10 being moved by lever 41 against the action of return spring 16 from a normal position to two operating positions in both of which the headlamps are on (to flash them, since carrier 10 returns to its original position when lever 41 is released) and a second contact carrier 20 carrying bridging contact 23. Carrier 20 has two positions which it holds when moved into them, headlamps dipped and headlamps on, carrier 20 being moved by carrier 10 (through shoulders 11, 25). Moving lever 41 and consequently carrier 10 into its second operating position moves carrier 20 into one held position and again moving lever 41 into its second operating position moves carrier 20 into its other held position, and so on in sequence. Carrier 20 is held in its two positions by a ball 22 in a bore 21 in carrier 20 riding round a heart-shaped cam track 40 in housing 16, carrier 20 being urged to its original position, dipped lamps, by return spring 27. Pushbutton 51 may also operate direction indicator switch 52.
