Abstract

1,155,358. Mechanical switches. D. H. BONNELLA & SON Ltd. 3 May, 1968 [4 May, 1967], No. 20843/67. Heading H1N. An electric switch includes a block member 2 slidably mounted in a housing 8, linked to an actuating arm 1 and resiliently biased against a fixed member in the housing, either the fixed member or the block member 2 including a cam track 6 and the other of the members including a follower 7 engaged in the cam track 6, the cam surfaces being asymmetrically angled such that the resistance to movement of the follower is greater in one direction along the track than the other. As shown, cam follower 7 is on block member 2. The switch has three positions, determined by valleys in the cam track 6, and the sloping cam surfaces leading from the valleys locating the outer positions to the crests bounding the valleys locating the central position are gradual, whereas the slope from these crests to the valleys locating the central position are steep so that it required little effort to switch the switch into the central position but greater effort to move the switch from the central position to either of the outer positions. The moving contact comprises member 5 urged by spring 3 against fixed contacts 4 of which there are five, Fig. 5 (not shown), bridged by moving contact 5 or 8 in a double-pole version, Fig. 6 (not shown).
