Abstract
1296207 Mechanical switches JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 4 March 1970 [17 March 1969] 13792/69 Heading H1N A pivoted rotor 14 carries a first bridging contact 24 bridging fixed contacts 21, 22 in a first angular position of the rotor and a second bridging contact is movable in response to movement of the rotor to a further angular position to bridge the same fixed contacts 21, 22, the second bridging contact comprising a spring 26 having limbs 27, 28, both urged by their own resilience against one of the fixed contacts, 22, one of the limbs, 27, being flexed by the rotor into engagement with the other fixed contact, 21, when the rotor is moved to said further angular position. As shown, a multi-position switch suitable for two-speed and single-stroke control of a windscreen wiper motor comprises a rotor 14 operable by a lever 17 and carrying a spring-urged ball contact 24 for selectively bridging adjacent ones of conductive pillars 19, 21, 22, 23, and providing location of the rotor in these three positions. When the rotor is moved beyond the position wherein ball 24 bridges contacts 21, 19 a post 29 on the rotor urges limb 27 of spring 26 against contact 21 thus bridging contacts 21, 22 whilst arm 17 is held in this position but when 17 is released the ball 24 retracts to bridge 19, 21 under joint action of its own spring and spring 26. A lug (16, Fig. 1, not shown), integral with rotor 14, moves in a slot in the switch housing top plate 12 to define the limits of rotor movement. If the fourth contact 23 is not required the rotor with spring 26 may be inverted such that lug (16) co-operates with a shorter slot in a housing bottom plate (13) and another post 29a then acts on spring limb 28 to provide the retractive contact function.
